FAQs

Bentonite Clay Questions Pale Irish

Q. How do I mix the clay for masks, baths and drinks.

A. You can find that here

Q. What type of skin is Bentonite Clay usable on?

A. Yes, Bentonite Clay can be used on all Skin Types. Generally, Bentonite Clay can be simply mixed with water, and used immediately, but if you have the ingredients, you can upgrade your regime by doing the following and mix or combine the clay in different ways if you want for specific skin types:

Dry/Sensitive Skin: Heavy cream, honey or vegetable oils such as sesame, grapeseed, sweet almond, jojoba or olive.

Normal Skin: A light vegetable oil such as grape seed or sweet almond. Whole milk is recommended, as are flower waters such as rose or orange. Only use one liquid at a time!

Oily Skin: Distilled or spring water, witch hazel, flower waters.

Q. Why does the clay come in a bag?

A. Bentonite Clay is finely milled which means it is partial to being hard to control - other sellers use plastic bags and tightly seal around the clay - this makes it hard to open without spilling clay everywhere! Some sellers use jars, but this can be unnecessarily large storage and isn't very good for keeping out air or moisture.

We trialled lots of storage ways, but found the best was our Food Grade Resealable Zip bags.

They are easy to open and reseal - keeps out impurities, moisture, and keeps the clay fresh. It's easier to pack away and is durable and can even be reused in the future.

Q. Can I drink the clay?

A. To make a Bentonite Clay drink, you can mix a spoon full with about 200ml of water and stir thoroughly in a glass or wooden bowl and allow to sit for a few hours - to a few days (does not need to be in a fridge).

When ready to drink, shake well and drink. It is good to increase your fibre intake when taking Bentonite clay internally as it's drawing impurties (and moisture) from the body. If you are unsure, then you should consult a doctor or physician and take their advice. Every body is different, and only you know what is right for your body.

There are some people who should not take Bentonite Clay: if you are pregnant, have Iron absorption issues, High blood pressure, Chronic constipation or if you if you take medication which might be affected by the clay.

Q. Are there metals in Bentonite Clay?

A. Yes, there are naturally occurring metals in all clay, but not high levels. There are trace amounts of lead and trace amounts of aluminium; but they’re not bio available. Aluminium occurs naturally in our bodies and in Bentonite Clay. Unlike aluminium additives, natural aluminium in bentonite clay isn't absorbed by our bodies. Once bound to silica, aluminium carries such a high negative charge it is actually central to the beneficial functions of clay—without it, the bentonite molecule wouldn’t be able to do its job. Instead, the aluminium leaves our bodies the old-fashioned way.

Q. What pH is Bentonite Clay?

A. Bentonite clay has an alkalinity of 8.5ph. Bentonite Clay is a powerful detoxifier gentle enough for use on the body. Pure Bentonite clay is ultra pure, clean, allergen free, laboratory tested, high in beneficial trace elements, making it the clay of choice for external & internal use.

Q. Is Montmorillonite the same as Bentonite Clay?

A. Montmorillonite clays and Bentonite clays are the same: Bentonite clays are Montmorillonite clays and vice versa. All different Bentonite Clays are grouped together under the Montmorillonite or Smectite group of clays.

Some places use the names differently for marketing and brand names and use different terminology to confuse people and usually charge more, but they are the same thing.

Other names by which Bentonite clay include Fuller’s Earth Clay and Diatomaceous Earth, but it is always better to get pure Bentonite Clay for health and body.
